Replaced fuel pump, now what?

I have a '95 Toyota Camry. I left it sitting with no gas for a month and it wouldn't start. I was told I needed a new fuel pump. After replacing it I tried to start it and it just sputtered a bit. The rpms jumped up to about 500 for a second and that was it. Do I need to prime it or something?
